Snow days

Well, it happened. Hell Raleigh (referring to the idom, I heart Raleigh just FYI) froze over, as is wont to happen once in a while. Just over an inch of the white fluffy stuff has sent the city into a frenzy of the “er-mer-gerd, snow!” sort, and has me camped out at home. Anyways, anybody with access to a news channel knows about the snow, so I won’t gab on about that.

So I didn’t get to go see the pony, boo. Instead a kind friend took photos of him!

Seriously, how cute is he with his snow mustache.

I did, however, get to snap a few quick pics of Drake outside, with the most beautimous sunset….

Oh my goodness was he ever having fun!

And then I was able to get this one good one before the sun completely disappeared!

Hopefully next year I will get my act together and take proper photos, but we’ll see!

Meanwhile, since I have been stuck outside and have been feeling surprisingly domesticated, I thought I would share with you the. best. spinach. thing. ever. Seriously, it’s delicious. I have eaten 3/4 of it today, so I should know.

Yeah, I had a piece before I could take a pic. My bad.

Yeah, I had a piece before I could take a pic. My bad.

Here’s the link to this cheesy spinach-feta pie that is oh-so-easy, and skinnytaste approved! I’ve also been busy making Yorkshire pudding (part of the best and cheapest dinner EVER) and Mulled wine. Perhaps tomorrow I will post the ‘recipes’ for those if it interests anyone!

Anyways, hope everyone stays warm! Be safe y’all!

So Sorry…

I really haven’t forgotten the blog, I swear. I have, however, been busy enough at work that I haven’t been able to squeeze a post in. And oh, yeah, nothing has really happened that would really interest anybody anyhow.

At least ponykins is no longer lame! Unfortunately, the craptastic weather we have been having means I couldn’t ride this week, and am hopeful I can sit on him tomorrow. *Hopeful*.

My thoughts on mud.

My thoughts on mud.

This weekend should be a little more interesting, as I’m going to the rodeo with the barn girls, and then tomorrow we will be celebrating a friend’s birthday with a fun dinner. Also, if my horse’s mane is not pulled by Monday, someone throttle me. I’m getting embarrassed.

Anyways, sorry for the short post! Y’all enjoy your MLK weekend!

Are you superstitious?

Image

If his song just started playing in your head, you’re welcome.

I don’t consider myself and overly superstitious person, but there are a couple things I ‘believe’ that could definitely fall into that category. And there are other logical, seemingly normal people I know that also hold to ideas that are decidedly superstitious as well. Just a couple days ago, Tyler was debating on whether or not to watch a Carolina game because he wasn’t sure if he was going to be good luck for them.

Image

Carolina Juju, brought to you (or not) by Tyler

I’ve always kind of wanted some sort of token that I could believe in that would be my good luck charm, but try as I might nothing seems to want to be my lucky ‘thing’. Oh well. I do personally think though that bad things come in three’s, and the last 18 hours (in which this occurred) is proof of that to me. I also can’t help but feel uncomfortable about walking under ladders, opening umbrellas indoors, or breaking mirrors, though I don’t think I would make it a point to go out of my way to avoid doing those things.

Where oh where are me lucky charms?

Where oh where are me lucky charms?

So, friendly readers, what do you think? Lucky charms? Superstitions?

New year, new job!

My last photo of Tekelec

My last photo of Tekelec

Tomorrow is my last day at Tekelec, a telecom company for which I have worked as Graphic Designer for the past 3 1/2 years. While I am really looking forward to the new opportunity I start next week, I have to give a shout out to the wonderful individuals I have worked with over the years. As the sole creative person in a company of over 1,000 employees, I was fortunate in getting to know all sorts of people and go on many adventures. What other graphic designers get to go to Montreal, or Dallas, or Brazil for their job?

The experiences I have had, the knowledge I have gained, and the relationships I have forged here mean so much to me, and I am truly thankful. I just wanted to send a message to any of my coworkers that may  have stumbled across this blog- thank you for everything, I wish you all the best!

2014 Resolutions and Goals

555843_10101093402294949_2137455361_n

As previously discussed, 2013 was a huge year for us (Parts I, II, and III here) here in the House on the Hill. I think I will always look back and smile when I think of all the changes me and mine have gone through, and be glad for the memories. However, as much fun as it is to relive those moments, now is the time to look forward to what lies ahead. Surely 2014 will not be quite as tumultuous  as 2013, but I still expect to make lots of memories nonetheless! Here are some of the things I hope to see happen in the coming year.

The Horse
Blah, blah, blah, insert yet another comment about moving up to Novice here. But to get a little more specific, my hope for 2014 is to not only go Novice, but to do so with a final score below 35. So ideally, get a 65% or better on dressage and go double clear in show jumping and cross country. I know time is going to be our biggest issue, so I think I would also be pretty ecstatic if another scenario happened- like a 67% dressage test and a couple time penalties XC. Just being honest! 🙂 At the end of the day though, I will be satisfied with a happy, healthy, and fit horse!

We get knees at Novice!

At home, I want to nail our canter transitions (we had some great ones this weekend so this should be entirely possible!) and get our lengthenings solid enough to do a first level test and score in the mid 60s. In order to do this all of our transitions need to be sharp and supple as well, so I will be concentrating on these too.

The House
I pretty much went into this at the end of my accomplishments post, but my main two priorities are the kitchen and the landscaping. We’ve done a lot to the backyard recently (pics to come) but the kitchen will surely be the biggest project of all!

The Rest
Lately I’ve been doing some soul searching, and there are definitely tons of some things I would like to improve about myself. On a purely physical level, I let myself eat poorly over these holidays (who doesn’t?) and want to get back to feeling good about myself and be more in shape. I want to look into calcium supplements and try to decrease my Red Bull intake.

Seriously, it's a problem.

Seriously, it’s a problem.

Then I want to work on my attitude. I’ve always known that I have perfectionist tendencies and somewhat low self esteem, but recently the combination has had a pretty dismal effect on my general outlook. I nitpick at every thing I say or do, and it needs to stop. Waking up the morning after a social interaction and reliving every detail until I find something to feel guilty about is not healthy, and not how I want to live my life. So, I am going to try to be more positive about, and accepting of, myself. I hope in 2014 that I learn to spend more time in the moment and really focus on enjoying the wonderful friends and family I have- I am lucky to be surrounded with beautiful people and there is no reason to be unhappy!

Beautiful (erm, Handsome) on the inside and out- my husband!

I’m sure as the year goes on these goals will change, or become more specific. But for now I feel like these are all attainable with work and dedication! A fit and capable horse, an improved home, and a happy lifestyle are what I hope to cement for myself. I hope you guys will be along for the ride! What resolutions do you guys have for 2014? What changes do you hope to see?

Merry Christmas week!

I’d feel like a broken record if I were to tell you I had another busy weekend. That’s pretty much the story of my life, but somehow everyone has realized it except me. Most of the weekend was dedicated to playing photographer, first in a family portrait session…

fb_DSC2981And second, taking my camera to the barn because believe it or not, it was too hot to ride. That’s right, too hot. In the end though I feel like it was worth it!

Anyways, I will be essentially offline for the next few days, so you guys enjoy your Christmas holiday! Cheerio!

Throwback Thursday

Yes, this is a bit of a cop-out post. But, I was inspired by a coworker to share these photos, one of my mum on her Appaloosa jumper, Blue Boy, and another of her and her sister jumping cross country back in England. Different times!

Engagement shoots are fun!

  • Started a blog about a House on a Hill 😀

And lastly… I can announce now that I will be accepting a position as Web Designer at a new company in the new year! Woot woot!

*Disclaimer: I have not kept off the whole 20+ lbs, because that weight for me requires insane working out/strict diet, but it was my goal for the wedding and I am proud of it nonetheless!
