The Voice in my Head

Saturday’s ‘lesson’ with A and J was a success in that they really helped me find the ‘feel’ for the canter I’ll need at Training level. We dabbled in several different exercises, which I will do a better recap of in the next couple days.

For now, I am trying to allow their voices to fill my head- specifically the following phrases:

More canter, more engagement!

Thumbs on top! (this having to do with a following elbow/hand)

Use your outside rein, dammit!Β (shoulder popping is for the dance club)

Lower calf on!! (Keep the whole leg on, not just my ankle/spur kicking)

Upper body back! (pumping is *not* attractive)

dammit can I not ride with my mouth closed?

(and most importantly…)Β You can do it!

A + J (behind the camera) are my new schizophrenic influences, er, best friends!

  1. Adam Sandler’s the Water Boy has me forever reading/saying “You can do it!” in a terrible mexican accent!!!
But you guys CAN DO IT!!!! Plus you should come back to FENCE this year!

    • Haha if they would do a schooling HT I would definitely be there! As it is I won’t sink dollars into a USEA membership/recognized show until I’m positive we will have a competitive chance! Any schooling opportunities that you are aware of?

  2. Me too to all these voices! I have noticed that I sometimes pump with my upper body in the worst possible way that really just results in me bouncing up and down in the saddle and it’s horrendous!! I must stop.

    You CAN do it. πŸ˜€

  3. Love your comment about not riding with your mouth closed! I do that to….it always bites me in the ass when I swallow a fly…or at least I hope it was only a fly!
